The Labor-Greens alliance signed today raises significant concerns for non-government schools generally and Christian Schools in particular.
Equitable funding and the efficacy of religious school choice must both now be considered at greater risk.
Further evidence has emerged of policy disarray in The Greens, with the party's NSW Senate candidate the latest to attempt to sell a mixed message. Lee Rhiannon is the Greens lead Senate candidate in NSW. While not the Party's education spokesperson, she outlines a clear agenda to radically alter the funding arrangements for non-government schools.
What is ‘religion’?
This vital question has been the subject of considerable legal attention in New South Wales with the NSW Court of Appeal recently handing down an important decision that has potential ramifications for all Christian schools across the country.
Despite attempts to change their hard-line rhetoric against funding of non-government schools the Greens policy remains, at its core, strongly oppositional to the interests of Christian schools. In this commentary we examine recent suggestions that the Greens have softened their stance.
