In September last year the Attorney-General and Minister for Finance and Deregulation launched a public discussion paper to seek community views on consolidating Commonwealth anti-discrimination law into a single Act.
From the perspective that religion in our schools is not simply taught as a stand-alone subject, but permeates all that takes place and is lived out in the daily lives of the community of the school, this is an important project to keep abreast of. CSA’s submission to the Attorney-General’s review and consolidation of the Commonwealth’s anti-discrimination law touched on protected attributes, exceptions and exemptions, the protected areas of public life and in particular, the meaning of discrimination.
