With more than 20 years professional experience serving Christian schools, Mark was appointed in a national policy role in 2010.
Professional Background
Mark's experience with Christian schooling began in 1990 when he commenced service with Christian Community Schools Limited (CCSL) - a predecessor organisation to CSA. He was appointed as Director of Management Services in 1993 and NSW State Director from January 2001. Mark has been extensively involved in the leadership of both CCSL and CSA including the development of policy in a range of areas.
From January 2002 Mark served as NSW Director of Administrative Services of Christian Schools Australia Limited. He also has been Company Secretary of both CCSL and CSA as well as a Trustee and Fund Secretary of Christian Super, since 1994. From 2009 Mark has been Chairman of Trustees of Christian Super.
In 2010 Mark was appointed as the Executive Officer, National Policy for CSA.
After completion of a Bachelor of Business degree with a major in accounting and a specialisation in computing Mark worked for more than four years in a medium-sized Sydney accounting practice gaining experience in a wide range of areas from auditing to company liquidations. During this time he completed his Professional Year and was admitted to membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Following this Mark spent time working as a business and computer consultant.
Calling
After becoming a Christian in 1988 Mark felt called to use his skills in a Christian ministry and this led to successfully seeking the position at CCSL. Mark has provided advice to schools in all non-educational operations including funding, finance, management and industrial relations.
During 2000 Mark developed and presented a range of seminars to assist schools in implementing the GST. Mark is an experienced presenter at conferences and seminars on many administrative issues.
Since 1993 Mark has assisted schools in NSW with industrial issues; assisted in the development of workplace agreements for schools in WA and has appeared on behalf of schools before the AIRC and the NSW IRC.
Education, qualifications and memberships
Mark completed a Master of Labour Relations and Law degree in 1999, and was awarded the Postgraduate Prize for Industrial Relations during his first year of study. In May 1999 he also attended Indiana Wesleyan University and undertook courses under the direction of Dr Glenn Martin, a speaker at a number of Christian school conferences.
Mark is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. In addition he holds membership in the Australia & New Zealand Education Law Association and has spoken at their conferences. He also is a Justice of the Peace and has been a registered tax agent.
Publications
Mark has been a contributor to the CCH Australia School Principals Legal Guide, co-authored the first edition of the GST Guide for Christian Schools published in 2000 and authored the update to this publication in 2001.
