Professional Background

Before joining CSA Richard was special counsel at Australian Business Lawyers, a highly respected workplace and commercial law firm which he joined in 2001 having completed, with distinction, his Masters in Labour Law and Industrial Relations from the University of Sydney.  Prior to working with Australian Business Lawyers, Richard was the head of litigation at Emil Ford & Co, a commercial law firm with a strong practice in education, well known to many Christian schools, particularly in Sydney.

Richard has advised employers in connection with most issues that arise in the workplace.  He has extensive experience in a wide range of litigation and dispute resolution, particularly in connection with employment.  He has represented both employers and employees and understands the considerations relevant to both.  Richard has appeared in most courts and tribunals in both federal and state jurisdictions.

Richard is a member of the Lawyers Christian Fellowship and seeks to live by its motto taken from Micah 6:8 “He has showed you, O Man, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”. 

Education and memberships

Richard holds Bachelors of Arts and Law as well as a Master of Labour Law and Industrial Relations.  He is a member of the Law Society of NSW, the Industrial Relations Society of NSW and the Australia & New Zealand Education Law Association.

Publications

Richard has been a regular contributor to Human Resources magazine and has also contributed to National Safety and other publications.

Calling, Family and Personal

Richard has an abiding interest in the development of children and young people - seeing them built up and reaching their God-given potential.  Richard’s desire is to use his professional skills to help schools achieve this by being effective in what they do.  Married and the father of four children aged from 5 to 13, Richard is actively involved in the children's ministry of his church, CCC Ryde, and in coaching/managing his sons’ soccer teams.
