Sandra Scott was appointed CSA Executive Officer for South Australia in August 2011 following a long and very fulfilling career in teaching and educational administration.
After gaining a BA (Maths and Geography majors) and Grad Dip T (Secondary) at Adelaide University in the 1970’s, Sandra has taught almost every grade from Reception to Year 12, and almost every subject, particularly her favourites - maths and geography! Since 1985 she has worked in Christian schools, firstly under the Christian Community Schools banner and, since its inception, with CSA schools. Her most recent appointments have been as Assistant Principal at Murraylands Christian College, where she established the secondary section of the college, and Deputy Principal at Southern Vales Christian College. Sandra has also enjoyed a long association with Tabor Adelaide, giving occasional lectures and mentoring student teachers in school placements.
After hearing a series of lectures on Christian worldview and history by Doctor Glenn Martin, Sandra was challenged by his statement, ‘Know what you believe and why, and know what you don’t believe and why not.” She completed her Masters of Educational Studies in 2001 through ICTE (Sydney) and was Dux of her class. Sandra takes Romans 12:2 very seriously - “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” She encourages teachers to design Christ-centred and bible-based curriculum units that require students to think deeply about God’s character and attributes, to recognise the awesomeness of creation and to consider God-honouring applications of knowledge. Collaborating with others on curriculum development is a particular joy.
Sandra is committed to raising up a generation of well-educated young Christians who will confidently take the Gospel of Christ, with its message of hope and redemption, into the workplaces and communities of Australia and to the ends of the earth! She likes to promote staff development opportunities and encourages family-friendly employment policies, as well as believing that it is far more efficient for Christian schools to work together on policies and curriculum rather than each ‘inventing the wheel’ separately, so to speak. Having a rural background, Sandra is well aware that many families in Australia still do not have the blessing of a local Christian school. She is prayerfully committed to all children having access to a Christian school education should their parents desire it.
Sandra belongs to the Hallett Cove Uniting Church community where her husband Craig is the Pastor. They are blessed with four wonderful children, namely Rebecca, Timothy, Sarah and Melanie, married respectively to Joseph, Susannah, Kevin and Jonathan. In her ‘spare time’, Sandra loves travelling, reading, meeting people and playing with her eight (so far) grandchildren. She also enjoys organising and leading mission and cultural awareness trips to Indonesia for secondary students.
