Thirteen students from Southern Vales Christian School have helped deliver gifts and build a basketball court for poor children in a short trip to Indonesia last month.
The students, who ranged from Years 9 to 11, participated in an Indonesian Mission and Cultural Awareness trip that lasted for eleven days.
Binong, one Indonesia’s poorest areas now has a basketball court thanks to the student’s enthusiastic efforts.
Staff and students also helped at their host school, Sikolah Pelita Harapan in Lippo Village, by teaching and participating in lessons.
The eye-opening experience also saw the trip include a visit to the Rumah Anugrah Orphanage and the site of a Compassion Project in North Jakarta.
While visiting local families the students were challenged to see what was really important in life; one student remarked on the happiness of the families even though they had so little.
