Four Year 12 students from Tyndale Christian School from 2009 have won National Vocational Student Awards.
The students—Imogen Davies, Justine Pelle, Aaron Smith and Jemma Trevean—each received a certificate and a cash prize of $2,000.
Only 41 students in South Australia for 2009 were recipients of this award, with Tyndale Christian School being only one of three schools to have a total of four students awarded this prize.
Principal of Tyndale Christian School, Michael Potter, explains “Thirty-three of these recipients came from non-government schools, which says something significant about the priorities of non-government schools when it comes to the courses they offer, and their commitment to vocational education.”
Imogen Davies completed a School Based Traineeship, Certificate II in Retail. Her VET Coordinator, Mrs Daphne Daniel, explained how doing Voc Studies in Retail “helped Imogen gain her SACE and entrance into University”. Imogen is now doing a Degree in Food and Nutrition
Justine Pelle is currently doing a Double Degree in International Studies, having completed Certificate II in Tourism. Justine gained her VET in Year 11. “She was wise enough to see that the skills she would learn in a virtual business in Certificate Two in Tourism would be the skills she would need as a professional manager in the years to come”, Mrs Daniel says.
Aaron Smith is studying full-time at TAFE doing Certificate II in Electro-technology after finishing his School Based Traineeship in Certificate II in Retail.
Jemma has just completed Certificate II in Beauty and is looking to gain employment at the establishment where she did her course.
Congratulations must go to them, their families and especially the Extended Learning Centre staff under the direction of Mrs. Daphne Daniel for their dedication to these students.
