Over the past 41 years of operation in Southeast Queensland, Shaftesbury has focussed on rehabilitating young people who are at risk of disengaging from secondary schools. Shaftesbury has provided educationally-based programs that guide and equip young people and help them create a new beginning.  Shaftesbury has paved the way for many forms of ‘alternate learning’ and has been responsible for establishing various programs throughout the nation.  Shaftesbury has also developed extensive connections with independent schools and state schools in their work to help young people manage inappropriate behaviour.

Shaftesbury has started Arethusa College at the Campus and has 25 young men that have enrolled as students. The College is currently in the process of applying to be recognised as an independent school and is currently operating under the auspice of Mueller College. The program encourages outdoor learning while focussing on developing trade skills in agriculture, horticulture, construction and the automotive industry.

With the support of Shaftesbury, the Rotary Club of Caboolture is aiming to raise at least $250,000 to construct a suitable school building and purchase equipment towards Arethusa College.

This money would allow Shaftesbury to have;

• A multi-purpose classroom for numeracy and literacy

• A vocational education workshop

• Essential equipment such as computers and basic machinery.
