Schools spend large amounts on copy right fees for educational purposes, but are still at risk of omitting to pay applicable fees that other businesses pay. The recording industry watchdog, the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA), has shifted its compliance focus from education to enforcement. More than 1000 businesses were fined last year as they focussed on music on hold and other public broadcasting of material.

All schools will have received an email headed ‘For Action – Financial Data Collection for My School Income Reporting – Due 17 September 2010’ sent recently by Tony Zanderigo, Branch Manager, School Improvement & Transparency, Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching Group of DEEWR.
