Earlier this year the Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, announced the appointment of Emeritus Professor John Halsey from Flinders University to lead an independent review into regional, rural and remote education. The review will consider the key challenges and barriers that impact on students’ learning outcomes, including transitions toward, and success regarding, further study, training and employment. Professor Halsey has now released a discussion paper which highlights key educational challenges and issues that impact on the learning outcomes of regional, rural and remote students he intends to consider. The paper outlines nine themes he has identified that impact significantly on student learning outcomes:
- Curriculum and assessment
- Teachers and teaching
- Leaders and leadership
- School and community
- Information and communication technology
- Entrepreneurship and schools
- Improving access – enrolments, clusters, distance education and boarding
- Transitioning beyond school
The questions posed in the online submission form are based on the nine themes identified in the discussion paper.

CSA is seeking input from schools in regional and remote areas to inform our submission to the review. In addition interested schools can also make their own submissions if desired using the online form by the close of submissions at 5.00 PM AEST Tuesday 29th August 2017.
