Mission Trips For Student Impact

Mission Trips For Student Impact

How do we maximise the opportunities that mission trips bring to positively impact student character and faith formation? What can we enlarge that impact to include the broader school community?

In this online event we will hear from two schools using very different mission trip models that seek to do just that. They will share their thinking and mission trip models as well as address practical questions about time-of-year, staff involvement, year levels and school community involvement. There will be opportunity to ask questions and to share experiences.

Speakers

Speaker: Kerry Spriggs

Kerry Spriggs has been teaching at Cedar College in Adelaide for the past 12 years and prior to that at Mid North Christian College, Port Pirie, SA. She is the Thailand Coordinator and Year 7 Coordinator at Cedar along with teaching middle school Science and HPE. Kerry is passionate about helping young people step out of their comfort zones, experience different cultures and broaden their outlook on life through their school’s connections with Thailand.

Speaker: Geoff Peet

Geoff is the Executive Principal of Maitland Christian School, which has two schools and an Early Learning Centre. Throughout his time in Christian Schooling, Geoff has become increasingly passionate about students being involved in mission and having a missional mindset, training them to live out the Great Commission, and giving them a broader understanding of God’s world, their place in it and its many cultural stories. Increasingly, he is determined to see students realise the eternal security they have in Jesus and the unique gifts that God has given them, as well as how they can use these to glorify God and share His love with others.

In his spare time, Geoff enjoys spending time with family, keeping his two acres of lawn looking lovely, parkrunning, watching sports and trying to understand the cultural moment we live in and how best to live as God’s people and as part of His plan for making all things new.

Your host: Kathryn Button, Director of Global Connect

Kathryn has extensive experience in leadership in Christian and government schools, most recently as the Senior School Principal at Tyndale Christian School in South Australia. She is passionate about global mission and service, and is keen to expand the global vision of schools. She is also keen to encourage more women to pursue leadership roles in Christian schools and to explore ways to enable them to flourish in these roles.
