Change to Australian National Anthem

The Australian National Anthem has changed from 1 January 2021.  The word ‘young’ in the second line has been replaced by ‘one’ and the new, official, Anthem words are now:

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are one and free;
We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history’s page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We’ll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who’ve come across the seas
We’ve boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair.

We expect that the Government’s resources to support the use of the Anthem, see here, will be updated in the next few days.  The Anthem should always be sung in accordance with the official protocols.

Some Christian schools also sing an additional verse as ‘our Christian response’ –

With Christ our head and cornerstone, we’ll build our nation’s might;
Whose way and truth and light alone, can guide our path aright;
Our lives a sacrifice of love, reflect our master’s care;
With faces turned to heav’n above, Advance Australia Fair;
In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair.

Of course this is just one of the many additional and/or alternative verses and is not part of the Australian National Anthem.  Where this verse is used it should be in addition to the two verses of the National Anthem and not a replacement for the second verse.  In this situation is would be most appropriate to introduce the segment in the event as being “the Australian National Anthem and our Christian response” or similar, making clear that the additional verse is not claimed to be part of the Australian National Anthem itself.
