The NSW Parliament has established a Joint Select Committee on the Anti-Discrimination Amendment (Religious Freedoms and Equality) Bill 2020 introduced earlier in the year as a private member’s bill by One Nation MP, Mark Latham. The Terms of Reference for the Committee are very narrow, requiring it to “inquire and report into the Anti-Discrimination Amendment (Religious Freedoms and Equality) Bill 2020, including whether the objectives of the bill are valid and (if so) whether the terms of the bill are appropriate for securing its objectives”.
The Committee is inviting submissions to their inquiry by two means –
- a short online survey inviting people to indicate where they support the Bill and provide reasons of up to 750 words for their view, or
- for those with “specialist knowledge, expertise or experience in the field” a more detailed submission process.
Submissions close 21 August 2020.
We are encouraging schools to make their communities aware of the opportunity to complete the short survey and participate in this process. CSA willl be providing a longer form submission as well.
