St George Christian School off to a great start

Maintaining a sense of normality in online learning is key to keeping students motivated and engaged. Every morning our Middle School students (Years 6-8) start the day with an online motivational message from their Teacher. The video message includes a welcome, an outline of the day’s learning plan, a discussion question and a devotion focused on gratitude. It is very similar to what they would experience in their physical classroom, except the interaction is online. The students are able to make comments and share responses via the online Discussion Board.

Mrs Claire Deck, Year 8 Home Room Teacher says:

“Our aim is to encourage our students to remain engaged, communicative and connected to their community.  The feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive. Some parents have told us they are sitting in on the devotions and have found them very helpful.

The Discussion Questions always draw a great response from students. These sessions have featured questions like describe an animal you would like to be, find a hidden object in the classroom and work out which student a Teacher is drawing in real time. One of our Home Room Teachers even arranged a message from Spiderman. It is important for our students to continue to enjoy learning and to start the day in a positive way. It sets the tone for the rest of the day and gives them a clear path for their learning.”
