Public Consultation Open on Australian Curriculum

As flagged in our earlier Briefing, on 29 April 2021, the public consultation period opened for the proposed revisions to:

  • the Foundation – Year 10 (F–10) Australian Curriculum, including for all the learning areas,
  • the general capabilities, and
  • the cross-curriculum priorities.

There has been much in the media already about the changes, with headlines claiming Christian heritage sacrificed in school shake-up, More First Nations, less Christian heritage in curriculum changes, Woke In Fright: Curriculum exposed as PC horror show, New curriculum teaches cultural diversity, dumps ‘Christian heritage’ and the editorial in The Australian running under the banner  that it provides “A blueprint for narrower, more ideological education” rating the proposed changes “a D — for back to the drawing board”.

CSA has not sought to wade into the public debate at this stage, we want the opportunity to carefully review the proposals and receive feedback from member schools and staff within those schools.

ACARA have established a dedicated website for the consultation on the proposals here.  There is a mountain of information on the site about both the changes and the process, including the proposed new curriculum.  To aid schools and staff identify the changes proposed in the update as the starting point for feedback we have collated a number of links below.  You can also access a ‘Primary Curriculum View‘ which includes a scope and sequence document to make it easy to view the primary curriculum by levels rather than by learning areas.

We would greatly welcome any feedback or comments from schools on these changes.
